One step at a time

Free software for the parts of life that need looking after.

KindKeeping is a wholehearted project to help people, one step at a time. It makes careful, useful tools that are free to use and stay in your own hands.

The mission

To help humanity, one step at a time, with software anyone can use for free.

Much of life needs looking after: what you know, what you’ve decided, what you would want. These things matter most when memory fades, illness arrives or someone else needs to step in. KindKeeping makes tools for those moments, and publishes them one at a time, when they are ready.

What KindKeeping believes

Five ideas that shape every piece of work.

  • Looking after things is a form of care.

Keeping someone’s affairs in order is quiet work, and it matters. Good tools can make it lighter.

  • Your life belongs to you.

What you record should stay with you, on equipment you control, readable for as long as you need it.

  • Help should be free to receive.

The people who need this most are often least able to pay. So the software costs nothing.

  • Simple is a kindness.

Tools should work for people who are tired, unwell or overwhelmed, not only for people at their best.

  • Be honest about what’s ready.

What works today and what is still planned should always be clearly said, and never blurred.

What it has made so far

Continuity

A free, private record of a person’s life: what they know, what they decided and what they wanted.

It keeps their affairs understandable if they forget things, fall ill or need trusted people to step in. You run it on your own server, so KindKeeping never holds your data.

Explore Continuity
Continuity’s Attention screen, showing what is urgent, what is due soon, what needs review and what must not be touched. The records shown are made-up sample data.

How Continuity works

  1. Download it for free

    No account, no payment.

  2. Run it on your own server

For now, this means a Linux server you control.

  3. Keep your record

What you know, what you decided, what you want.

  4. It stays yours

Encrypted, and readable even without the app.

More works will follow, one at a time.

Each will be published here when it is ready to use, and not before.
